My Great Uncle was one of the top Nasa adminisrators when they frist set it up in the sixties, he was an aeronautical engineer and much more, so my family always had the latest information coming our way. He also arranged for us to go to Florida to see the SkyLab launched into space. He once told me that of all the promotion of the space program the one thing that inspired the most people about space exploration was Star Trek! And he also explained that when people sometimes complained about all the money being spent in space he pointed out that not one penney was ever spent in space, but rather it was all spent right here on earth mostly right here in this country. Anyway he had the first EARTHRISE photo that I had ever seen and it was autographed by the three astronauts who took it. He helped to establish the Space Museeum in Jackson, Michigan which is now closed so my family will be donating many of his things to the new AIR ZOO which is in Kalamazoo!
