Hi Peter,
I'm new here and have not heard of this Stagecoach Show. What was it?
The Eagles' music in the old days was always described as "stainless steel" rock. I went to a concert in Frankfurt in the 70s when Randy Meisner was still the bassist. Not sure what year it was exactly, though it was probably a later concert than the 73 tour mentioned earlier. It probably was the Hotel California Tour. It was very slick -- never a wrong note, nothing off pitch, just perfect in every way. I guess you could say it had no soul, but actually I liked it!

Yes I agree it seems the Eagles have slowed a bit recently ,lets call it like it really is.First and foremost Tim is not a "sideman" in the Eagles. He laid down some killer harmonies on long Road, just listen to Waiting in the weeds plus Do something and a writing credit on Long Road.He has been on the cover of The Rolling Stone Once in 1980 and just recently for Long Road.He is also a member of the Rocknroll HOF.Richie is the only other former Poco member who can claim that.I dont want to hear anymore a Paul Carrack song is weak at best,I dont know why he chose to record it.I doubt Paul Carrack live could come close to a Joe Walsh show never mind The Eagles.I think they are touring to much and yes Glenn Frey is no longer as good as he once was.Maybe it was a bad night,I saw them in Newark NJ last year and they gave a great long show, everyone who was there that I knew was satisfied. These guys are in thier sixities and even Frank Sinatra slowed at that point in his career.

If it was the Festhalle in Frankfurt, then it should have been 77, the HC tour indeed. I was there, too, and I was stunned by the perfection of their show.

My next Eagles show was 1996 at the same venue, and the first set was an exact copy of the first set of 1977 with just one song changed. I was bored. The second set that night made up for it. But nonetheless, it's their 'unique selling point' to give the audience a perfect sound and a perfect performance in terms of not playing a single note wrong, getting all the harmonies right and playing all their hits.

Other bands have a different spirit, they do concerts to show the people what they can make out of a recorded song when set loose. I've seen Springsteen 5 times, and the only thing that was a 'common thread' in those shows was they were highly energetic from A to Z. And the setlist was unpredictable. With the Eagles I didn't bother to go this time around because I had already heard some boots from this tour, and I knew exactly what to expect, so why spend 150 euros for a ticket?

Hi Kelly,

There's a whole threat on this site and loads of great youtubes of the Stagecoach Reunion Show by Poco. Tim, Richie and Jim joined Paul, Rusty, Jack and George and.... George Grantham sang harmonies on most of the songs. I have never seen so many people with tears in their eyes. I spoke with George after the show, and he was in tears as well. There was more than a little magic in the air that april 26th in the year 2009 in the hot desert of California.

A sold out tour... i guess you can mean 'sold out' in a couple of different forms.

It's not that many of us here on this board are jealous of the Eagles; I actually like the Eagles, and thought Long Road was a pretty good album. But the Eagles have led the way in charged stratospheric prices for concert tickets, and there is not very much personality on display on stage. Contrast that with Paul McCartney, who I just saw at CitiField in NY on Friday. 2 1/2 hours of energetic music, he exuded personality, spoke to the audience, joked with the audience, looked like he was having fun up there.

Like many things in the world today, prices are rising for many things. The Eagles, McCartney...tickets $200 apiece. Given the choice, I'd rather see Sir Paul. The Eagles do a very good note-perfect show, but I can listen to the records if I just want to hear perfect harmonies and musicianship. Actually, I can spend a whole lot less to hear perfect harmonies live... it's a band called Poco!

So finally Radley III is back around here, and as always, the voice of reason ...

I spend time at Eagleland, too, and it's fun to see how different the Dutch shows get perceived. Over there there's a 10 page thread about the Arnheim concert with 5 pages of "Only 2 more days to go!", "How cool for you!" etc. and the other 5 pages "It was the best show I've ever seen!" and "Doesn't Tim (Glenn, Don) look fantastic?"

There were very few mentions about the shorter set and even less about what was dropped. But you get the same sentiment here. Poco usually does a "Greatest Hits" show, and there are a lot of posts here "So great to hear Rose Of Cimarron, Heart Of The Night, <you name it> ..." and "Paul looked great, Rusty looked great etc."

Seems like diehards of every colour are happy to see "their" band play the same old setlist over and over. I guess it's a matter of connection, of bonding.

What EVER! To me it's apples and oranges -

the Eagles are a monstrous, well-oiled and exqusitely talented machine with what, 7 or 8 world-class backup musicians. I read somewhere it takes 8 or 10 semi trucks to haul that show around. They're all multi-zazillionaires so I can only assume they're still out there for the love of performing, lord knows they don't need the money.

I often think about if the stars had lined up differently and POCO had gotten the same breaks, had Irving Azoff, etc, etc. the whole picture could easily be reversed. The Eagles give their fans exactly what they pay the big bucks for and expect. POCO does the same, every bit as well, just a different presentation and attitude and way more organic and approachable. I adore (understatement of the century) Timothy B Schmit and have been fan since his POCO days, but my God, can you imagine him personally answering a post over on Eagleland's board as Jack recently did here?

I'm a huge Eagles fan for what they do and how they do it. I'm a huge POCO fan for what they do and how they do it - apples and oranges; both wonderful IMO.

Thanks, wini! Cool! I wonder how many other concerts we've both been to? I can still remember my very first, The Doors with Canned Heat at the Jahrhunderthalle. Wow! What an impression that conert made on me. "The Bear', Bob Hite jumping up and down and the whole stage bouncing with him and "The Mole" Larry Taylor, and of course the magical/mystical entrance of Jim Morrison. And my last one in Germany at the SAP Arena, EC and Robert Cray. What a disappointment, EC that is. I haven't cared much for EC's music since he started collaborating with Doyle Bramhill. I like Derek Trucks, but all of these guys together created chaotic noise -- not what I expect from an EC concert. Robert Cray saved the concert from being a total bust. In between the first and last were many wonderful concerts I attended, Poco of course, John Mayall (many different ones), Genesis (w/Peter Gabriel), Ten Years After, Chicken Shack, CTA, Gentle Giant, EC in Eppelheim when Donald "Duck" Dunn was basist, and with Albert Lee on guitar. Great Memories!
