Discuss the band.

I was playing free cell and listening to Nada Surf's, Lucky and while checking the track listings this little note caught my eye;
"If you're reading this, there's a 99.9% chance you're lucky. To be able to rejoice in the medium of music, to be able to read, write and communicate in a number of ways. Safe in the knowledge that once you've finished what you're doing you can return home, sheltered, warm and watered. Most people don't think about these things, but our sheer healthy, privileged existence is the luckiest thing in the world."
I liked that. So true. Me, I'm lucky to be able to get out and run at my age. I'm lucky to have two fine granddaughters who make me proud and humble at the same time. I'm lucky that I understand New York and it seems to understand me. I'm lucky that after 42 years, a deferred dream came true. I'm just about the luckiest person I know to have survived what I have gone through and come out of all that life has thrown at me in the last 60 years and not be bitter or sour or jealous. I'm lucky that the Beach Boys make me feel like I'm 16 regardless of what the mirror tells me.
"Half a loaf is better than a kick in the head. You tell me what you mean and I'll tell you what said. I sent you for jelly, you come back with jam. Who exactly do you think I am?" R.Hunter

I'm pretty much a believer that we make our own luck. Lonesomedave wrote:I'm lucky that the Beach Boys make me feel like I'm 16 regardless of what the mirror tells me.
Always a good thing to pick an age and stick with it! I don't think I'll bring up the cruelty of mirrors...

"Luck is where hard work meets opportunity."
I heard that attributed to Vince Lombardi. And there is no small amount of truth to it... however...
I do believe in luck, serendipity, and folks who have watched over me from above.
And I will gladly accept all the help I can get!

I am so gratful, for all that I have. A combination of hard work, some luck along the way, and getting back ten fold what I've given from my heart. LIFE IS GOOD !

LUCKY
I show up on Sunday, throw a load of laundry into the washer. My mother keeps busy in the kitchen. I sit on the couch, read newspapers until some game comes on TV. My brother’s upstairs, still sleeping last night off. The smell of sauce simmers, fills the house. My sister and her kids are already
a half hour late. Mom plops down next to me. She’s sucking on lemon drops, trying to stop smoking again. We won’t mention her recent hospital stay, the endless tests, the guarded prognosis, how the room grew quiet and our faces turned red when I helped with her bed pan and sponge bathed her the first time. I slip off my sneakers, stretch out my legs and lay my head in her lap.
Wednesday, she had another test. This time, no traces of cancer were found. I close my eyes, feel her fingers twirl my thinning hair. She says she’s getting up early tomorrow morning, filling her pocketbook with rolls of quarters, buying a ticket on the Atlantic City Special and riding this lucky streak until her right arm falls off.

Thank you, Tony. An unexpected but very welcome few moments of reading.
A random act of poetry....
How cool is that? (Very!)

Glad you liked it Carolyn.
Yeah, the title of the thread made me think of something I wrote awhile ago and I couldn't help myself.
