that's the one with the pro-wrestler/actor from the 80's (forget his name) and the sunglasses that lets you see who's a demon or not, right?
Never really saw a great John Carpenter movie. The original Halloween is what he's most famous for, I guess, but I thought that was run-of-the-mill, way overrated. Escape From New York was kind of good, but again, in a campy way like this other one you mentioned.

I did enjoy "They Live" also. Carpenter has had some very good movies ("The Thing", "Starman") but also some terrible ones (Village Of The Dammed)

As for funnier, how about "Plan 9 From Outer Space" written and directed by the inimitable Edward D. Wood, Jr.
"Don't Stop The Carnival." (You've got to play by Kinja rules.)

I forgot about The Thing. Yeah, that was pretty decent; real 'ooky' effects, and some suspense.

Plan 9 From Outer Space! That's an amazing movie to watch with a few drinks under your belt. Here's another one to make a neat double feature: Robot Monster. It's not an Ed Wood 'classic' but it's the next funniest one to Plan 9.

They don't write songs like that any more !

Just watching Rio Bravo, and there's a commentary track by John Carpenter (a huge Howard Hawks fan).

I saw "Robot Monster" years ago on MTV. You're right, a very close competitor to "Plan 9". (Who knew aliens would appear much like gorillas, except with diving helmets.)
