On the Way Home (or how I spent my summer)

Candy and I will leave Ohio tomorrow morning to return to Florida. With this board kinda quiet on Poco matters, and the weather turning colder, I thought it might be fun to share what we all have been doing this summer. I'll start.

May: took our first ever trip to Monaco, the south of France and Paris. What a great time!

June-August: settled into our rental apartment in Stow, OH, celebrated the Cavs' NBA championship, spent a lot of time with the family, and played a ton of golf.

September: welcomed our third grandchild, Timothy Jerrold (aka "TJ") on the 3rd. Got a nasty case of poison ivy while hunting for a lost golf ball.

October: got over the poison ivy, celebrated my Mom's 89th birthday and the Indians' AL pennant. Hoping to celebrate a Tribe victory in the World Series later this month.

Good times for Cleveland sports fans. Cubs vs Indians, how about that.

We did Italy, Paris and the South Of France in May of 2005, including Poco in Nice. Sweet.

Florida,,, we're thinking about the 70s rock cruise out of Ft Lauderdale in March: Frampton, America, Christopher Cross, ELO w/o Jeff Lynne, Firefall, Orleans, etc.

With coho salmon fishing in Puget Sound cancelled this year and my boat engine seized, I sold it in May. Got plenty of crab using a friend's boat.

My wife and I retired in April, and with two new houses built next door where a forest was, we'll probably be moving next year. I missed all the lunch time concerts and happy hour live music in downtown Seattle where I worked for 34 years, 31 in construction management with the Coast Guard. I did take in plenty of music by locals in the bars and at festivals. Not many touring groups anymore since I've pretty much seen all the acts I want to. My concert history:

I did see Elvin Bishop in Feb. Very good. My review:

Billy Joel at the Mariners' stadium in May. Excellent. My review:

Don Henley in July. Excellent. My review:

The String Cheese Incident in July. Very good. My review:
http://mtheads.yuku.com/topic/2467/The-String-Cheese-Incident-at-Marymoor-July-22-2016#.WA6IeYWcFIk

The Monkees in Sept. Good. My review:
http://mtheads.yuku.com/topic/2468/The-Monkees-at-Moore-Theatre-Sep-25-2016#.WA6I6oWcFIk

Al Stewart and Gary Wright a couple weeks ago. Good. My review:
http://mtheads.yuku.com/topic/2469/Al-Stewart-Gary-Wright-at-Everett-Theatre-Oct-14-2016#.WA6JVYWcFIk

Also saw the very entertaining Book Of Mormon musical, and my first ever opera, Marriage Of Figaro. Probably my last.

Local entertainment starting in January:

Our geriatric 19 yo cat died in Sept so we were able to take a nice lengthy trip. Ten days, 3300 miles and 58 hours in our new Escape round trip to South Dakota:

Cheers to you Poconuts. I hope all is well.

Hey, Jeff, let me know if you go on the rock cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. We live about an hour north of there. It would be easy to meet you for dinner, if you have any free time before or after the cruise.

Hey y'all... been MIA for awhile. The last few months have been a blur!

Saw parts of 2 great Poco (PPL/Firefall) shows in FL in July with Keith & Linda and Margaret. We were all helping out the bands with merch so we didn't get to see much of the shows, but we had a blast none-the-less and the crowds just loved them! We heard so many positive comments from folks post-show... We sold almost every CD Rusty brought with him!

Wasn't able to make WIldwood due to work conflicts, but I did get down to Nashville for a long weekend earlier in the month to catch the Open Road (Jack, Michael, Rick, Ronnie Gilbeau and Mike Daly) which was huge fun!

October I went back to Nashville for vacation (caught another Open Road show that Marc and Sharon came down for - great to see you guys!) and, while I wasn't expecting to do this, I ended up buying a house! I've been thinking for awhile that I wanted to retire there, and while retirement may still be a few years off, I figured I'd better buy now before prices got so high that I couldn't afford it. The real estate market in Nashville has gone crazy over the last few years. Anyway, I'm really excited about this, but it's going to seriously cut into my future music travel, so if you don't see me running around following the band anymore it's not because I love them any less, I just need to cut back on non-essential expenses. And yes, I know... Poco travel could be argued to be "essential", but hard choices need to be made, lol... At least I'll get to see some of them around town from time to time.
:)

Big summer, Nan. Congrats on your new home and best wishes for a long and happy retirement. Gotta believe that you will see a ton of music performances in and near Nashville. Good on you.

Oh man don't know if I want to post this ...

I was in FL early July but for the wrong type of reason. My Mom was sick, in Brandon Hospital (Tampa) and eventually went home to my sister's home, where she passed away while listening to Bruce's "Born To Run". She loved Bruce. She was 86!

Almost a week to the minute my in-laws were in a serious car accident, which took them almost 2 months to get back to less than 100%. Still struggling.

We lost to cats this past winter Socrates. my Peaceful Warrior cat and Trey, my inspirational 3 legged cat. Soc went first day after the Super Bowl (we had to put him down). Trey March 10, found were he died on the living room floor.

So 2016 year of personal loose.

Extended Family (ex-fam.com) continues to rock and we are working on another CD. Maybe Feb 2017.

I continue on my monthly infusions for MS, keeping it at bay for the most part.

SOrry for the Debbie downer submission.

Back surgery to repair 2 discs. Been out of service from May until present day. Did get to vote early.
