Poco Live - 1976

I have been listening to this CD quite a bit lately, and I have really grown to like it more and more.

The whole album is a tribute to Paul's guitar playing. He really rocked on some former acoustic songs, like Angel, Ride The Country, and even High and Dry. His guitar playing is superb.

I also listen a lot to Tim's bass playing, and this CD emphasizes his outstanding bass if you listen closely to the songs.

I think this was the Fab 4 at its best. I know many considered this kind of a "throw away" CD as it was issued by Poco's former label after the left for another. But I think it is a fine example of the band's tightness and musicianship.

I have always been a huge fan of Paul. It seems that when he is performing songs written by say Rusty, his guitar work shows through more than even on songs Paul wrote. He is spot on with his acoustic guitar on Rocky Mountain Breakdown and electric on High and Dry on this CD. Paul's songs typically were more chord oriented.

Any other thoughts on this CD?

strongly agree, this one kind of fell thru the cracks...esp. like this version of Ride the Country...second side is a bit more hit and miss, High and Dry feels a little rushed and Good Feelin' is just never the same without Richie....though since I don't listen to Seven all that often, it's also nice to hear Angel live...

I was originally disappointed by Poco Live, in part because it contained no new songs (unlike the previous live album, DeLIVErin') and in fact contained nothing from the previous two studios albums. In retrospect, I really enjoy the musicianship on the LP, and would love to have an expanded edition using the full 1974 concerts (the LP runs under 40 minutes).

I was at the Concert that was the Yale part of this recording. I remember a great night of music. During this time the band had a gigantic backdrop of the “Poco 7” cover as their stage set.

I liked the electric version of Angel, versus the acoustic version on Seven. Wish Skatin' was on the live CD rather than Restrain.

The Poco Seven cover is in my top five of all-time favorite cover art. Great logo and the green background really makes the logo stand out.

Marc-

I was SUPPOSED to be at the St. Louis part of the recording. (I was going to college there at the time.) But I picked up a nasty flu big and gave my tickets to some friends. They enjoyed the performance, as I recall.

Rusty’s psg at the end of Bad Weather almost brings a tear every time.

I've always loved this live album, including the killer rendition of GFTK.
