John Prine's New Cd

Postby wheland » Sat Apr 14, 2018 10:42 am

I just got John Prine's latest cd and I was reading the credits and saw a Mike Webb credited on several tracks for B3 and keyboards.

Does anyone know if this Michael Webb ?

I haven't actually listened to the cd yet but I did seeJohn Prine w/ Brandi Carlisle and Russell Sturgis on the Colbert show earlier this week and the song they did was very good. She is on some tracks on the cd as well but I did not see Sturgis credited on it.

I've now listened to the John Prine cd and can give it 4 stars.

Basically if you like classic John Prine you will be pleased with this effort. Nothing spectacular or loud in nature. Just well written songs performed well.

I will say his voice is a bit rougher than back in the day but then again not everyone kept thier voice as well as say Richie Furay has.

Bottom line if you've been a fan for a long time this cd will not disappoint you.

I'm not sure when John had surgery for throat cancer, but he has done a number of releases since then.

I talked to one person who never heard him until after his surgery and he says he likes his post surgery sound better. Those of us who listened to him in the 70's might have to adjust their listening expectations.

The new John Prine is one of his best to my ears, his writing gets better with age.
