I like it OK, nothing really new or earth shattering. If you are not a big fan of Stills you should probably pass.

I downloaded it. It's OK. As someone already posted, it's raw. A lot of songs that eventually became classics, but in early stages. Recorded 4/26/1968. If you're a Stills fan, it's a piece of history.
I was reasonable once.

hzryb wrote:I don't have the CD of Just Roll Tape; I downloaded it from iTunes, so I don't have any of the liner notes... but what I do think this was, was a Judy Collins session that ended early (not sure if it was New York...Denver pops to mind), and Steve told the engineer to "just roll tape" and layed down these demos of songs that he had recently written.

As you know, Steve was "involved" with Judy at the time (played on a few of her records - that's Steve's guitar in the background of "Someday Soon") and of course, wrote several songs about her, including the eponymous "Suite Judy Blue Eyes."

These tunes were recorded sometime after Buffalo Springfield split up, but before CSN (and later Y) got together. That would bring the year to probably later '68 or early '69 by my reckoning.

Correct me if I'm wrong!

So, I guess these are the demo's that Jerry Fuentes refers to in his book "Legend" saying that there was a time after Neil announced his intent to depart BS that Steve was spending a lot of his time with Crosby and Hendrix and after doing some session work for Judy he laid down some acoustic stuff in anticipation of going solo...
With courage, strength, faith and hope we will face one day at a time.

Saw CSN on the weekend broadcast of Glastonbury 2009 and stills was in fine form, as were Crosby and Nash also. For me CSN were the highlight on the festival despite Neil Young and Springsteen's appearances.
