I'm listening to the podcast/mp3 of this Joey Molland interview. I'm 14min into the podcast and still no interview. The interview eventually starts in the 32nd minute. The dj is talking and playing tunes but he mentioned a new cd by Assembly of Dust. AOD have allot of special guests on their new cd like Jon Schofield, Richie Havens, Grace Potter. Check out AOD. Here are two songs by AOD.

Ok the interview comes in the 32nd minute of the podcast for those who want to fast forward. Joey is the last surviving member of Badfinger. He is playing as part of HippieFest. Sad to hear Joey's wife passed away unexpectedly of natural causes and so did his brother this past year. Joey and his wife where together since the Badinger days.

Joey sounds #@$! at the people who put out Badfinger material today excluding material of the other bandmates and act as if Badfinger was just Pete Ham. Joey goes on saying the Ham family does nothing about it. Joey talks about Alan Kline who came to lead Apple and wanted to reduce Badfinger's royalty to 5% after their contract was up in 1973. Joey also talks about recording with George Harrison (All Things Must Pass & Bangledish), Ringo Starr (It Don't Come Easy), John Lennon (Jealous Guy) Joey brags about how the Beatles were great musicians. Very complimentary of the boys. Joey calls Todd Rundgrund an ego maniac and told it to him to his face years later...lol...Todd said the Badfinger guys couldn't play. Todd Rundgrund first record producing job was on Badinger's Straight Up lp. Todd was fired from that job and George Harrison took over. He then talks about Stan Polley ripping off the band. The Badfinger had a royalty agreement of for every dollar made 40 cents for songwriter, 15 cents to each band member and manager.

Here's something I didn't know Gary Wright played piano on Harry Nilson's version of Without You.
Good interview take a listen for yourself.

Badfinger were underrated and never really got the recognition they deserved.

I recently watched a six part documentary on Youtube about this band. What a horribly tragic story. It seems they were cursed, somehow. But they did make some great music.

I'm traveling and have not had internet access until this evening, so I haven't had a chance to hear the interview.

BUT...last Saturday, I saw Joey and he put on a bang-up show. Of course, I'm very biased because "his band" is The Tearaways, my friends. But in all honesty, friendships aside, it was a great show. The Tearaways going out as "Badfinger" are doing basically the same thing as Baby Lemonade did with Arthur Lee -- going out as "Love", and what the Wondermints do as Brian Wilson's band. I don't have a problem with it. Some probably will.

BUT...I've know the Tearaways since 1979, and I have never heard them tighter. If you don't know what the original Badfinger band members look like, you would not know that this is not Badfinger.

If you liked Badfinger, you should go see Joey Molland and Badfinger. You'll love it.

And anyone curious about these guys:
