The founding member of Poco, Randy Meisner has died. He was also a member of the Eagles (everybody knows that, of course). Another one gone.

I never understood the dust-up regarding his departure from Poco. Was it a union regulation preventing him from attending the final-mix playback of the first album? Or was it a clashing of egos? At any rate, it'd be great if "Pickin' Up the Pieces" could be reissued with all of Randy's lead vocals restored, a la Gram Parsons and the Byrds for the "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" reissue in 2003. For now, it looks like Randy's version of "Anyway Bye Bye" is the closest we'll get to hearing him sing lead on a Poco song (not counting his three songs on the 1989 "Legacy" reunion album). At the least, he deserves a decent compilation.

In the History of the Eagles documentary, Joe Walsh said something like: "Randy had no idea how great he was."

Here's an often-forgotten Top 40 Poco hit featuring Meisner on outstanding lead vocals:

Good questions, phund. My essay on Meisner, along with several other thoughts on musicians that have died since 2017. Including Richard Neville, Poco bassist in the 90s. He passed away last month:

I really enjoy Fil of Wings Of Pegasus' music analysises at YT. Check out his analysis of Meisner's vocals on Take It To The Limit:

He talks about how many old recordings have recently been auto tuned and/or pitch corrected. In another episode he demonstrates in detail how pitch-correct was used to change the vocals on Take It To The Limit. Very interesting:
